You certainly can, I'm just not sure why you'd want to buy an Atom based 120 or a Celeron based 220 when for the same price point you can build an i3/i5 or even an i7 that will run rings around a 220. I can't speak to the Fit-PC but I can understand why you be having performance issues with that HP server. That P4 CPU is the last of the NetBurst architecture which is outclassed by even the lowest end modern CPU. It seems to be a situation of willing to pay also hard to buy.ġ00% Sure that if I buy a Appliance - I definitely can apply HOME License to it right? So will Local SOPHOS Resellers bother to sell me just the appliance? I know overseas mainly US - people can easily buy 2nd hand appliance from Amazon, e-bay etc at very cheap prices but it is not so straight forward in Asia countries and the shipment is expensive. I need the Dual Wan Port to learn the Local Balancing and Fail Over of the WANs.Ģ) Hardware Compatibility (My Fit-PC used to work in the 8.x but somehow 9.x the installation fails badly with those Linux errors that is beyond my knowledge)ģ) Performance - My own HP Server Pentium 4 HT 3GHz / Fit-PC (Atom 2Ghz) seems to have Performance issues but I wonder why those 110 and 120 which seems lower end hardware than mine - seems acceptable in the business world - I can only assume they do perform better?Ĥ) USB Stick Installation which is a feature of this SOPHOS UTM and can only learn how it works by having it. The Reasons I buy the SOPHOS UTM Appliance is as follow and lets discuss to see if it makes sense.ġ) Dual WAN PORT (Most Micro Computers such as Fit-PC is at most 2 ports) After the restart, “ASG Software” should be listed as the Model in the Dashboard.I am Thinking of buying a SOPHOS UTM 110/120 for HOME USE The appliance must be restarted so the adjustment can take effect. Issue the following > su Password: fw-sophos-asg120:/home/login # mv /etc/asg /etc/asg.txt fw-sophos-asg120:/home/login # exit Restarting the appliance & testing.Log in to the console with the user “loginuser”.When connecting to the appliance for the first time, the SSH fingerprint at the “PuTTY Security Alert” must be confirmed with “Yes”.Connect to the IP of the appliance via PuTTY.Check if you are allowed to access the application from your own network via SSH.Under “Management” -> “System Settings” -> “Shell Access” in the area “Shell User Passwords” create a password for the users “root” and “loginuser”. Importing the licence fails with the error message “Cannot use ASG software license on ASG1xx device.” Cannot use ASG software license on ASG1xx device.įortunately, it is relatively easy to modify the installation so that the USG Home Use License can be read. The Sophos UTM Home Use license is a “software” license and therefore cannot be installed on an ASG appliance. The Sophos UTM Home Use license can still be created and downloaded from the Sophos MyUTM portal. Although it is free, you need to register later and get a user license The Installation. To install the Sophos UTM software, you can follow the KB article on reimaging a UTM appliance. The Sophos UTM is free for personal and home use. You could do this manually yourself, but I used an ODD emulator instead. It is good to know that Sophos UTM install ISOs are not suitable for installation from USB sticks, because the USB drive is not mounted by the installer. In contrast to the Sophos XG home installation, the normal installer package for Sophos hardware can be used. The latest installer images for Sophos UTM can be downloaded directly from Sophos. Install Sophos UTM firmware / Initial setup The following instructions are based on a Sophos ASG 120. Therefore, it is not worth using the latest appliance for this tinkering project, as you would not be able to use its performance to the full anyway. However, you should note that the number of “Protected IPs” is limited to 50 and the number of connections to 32’000. In principle, any Sophos SG or ASG appliance can be equipped with Sophos UTM Home. Unlike Sophos XG Home, the Sophos UTM Home does not have any hardware limits. After multiple requests from users, here is how to license Sophos UTM Home on a Sophos ASG appliance. My post about installing Sophos XG Home on Sophos hardware included a note that Sophos UTM Home is still available.
